Strangers in the Night
Okay, the title has nothing to do with this post, which can only mean that this post is going to be as random as can be. Oddly enough, I'm listening to "Strangers in the Night" by Frank Sinatra, my favorite version. No one else does the song justice. Talking about music, I'm really excited to see if Thebe, also known as Earl Sweatshirt from the hip-hop collective group Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All (OFWGKTA), is going to be released from his juvenile detention facility in Samoa. I found out about Earl and all of OF's music last year around March and I became a huge fan. When Earl recorded, he was only 16, which made me respect him even more. The complexity of his lyrics, although gruesome, explicit, and some may call disturbing, is astounding. Earl's use of extended metaphors, homophones, homonyms, allusions, parallelism, paradox, and juxtaposition makes his rapping game a whole lot better and more sophisticated than anything I have heard in a while. Earl turns 18 this year, so he can't be held in the juvenile facility because he is no longer a minor, BUT in Samoa, legal adulthood is 21. Although some are not sure that Earl will be released this year, due to Earl's fame, many think that he will be released. FREE EARL.
