Funny how the smallest things can stir up such strong emotions and bring back heartfelt memories. I was fortunate enough to stumble across one of these moments this past weekend.
I woke up early one cold Saturday morning and I tried to go back to sleep. I looked around my room for a bit, looking at pictures of John Lennon, The Beatles, Kobe Bryant... and my sixth grade picture mosaic. I've had it on my wall since sixth grade, but I never really pay any attention to it. As I looked at it, it was like sixth grade all over again. Back to the days where we would work out algebraic equations with chalk on the cement, where we would have tennis ball wars in a ditch that ran along side the school, where we had snowball fights in the middle of winter, eventhough it wouldn't snow. Yes, those were the days where I had no stresses, didn't care what I looked like, no drama, no hassles. Everything was simple. The final hours of my childhood were enjoyed to the fullest that year. Everyday was an adventure that year, and although the going would get tough, there was always something to look forward to.
Looking back, I don't regret a single thing. As Paul McCartney once sang "Yesterday all my troubles seemed so far away/ Now it looks as though they're here to stay/ Oh I believe in yesterday." And yes, I do believe in yesterday.
shoot, wait till you get out in the big bad world. then you'll be thinking "i believe in yesterday" :P
